iVerify Malawi has verified the purported press release and determined that it is false. To arrive at this verdict, iVerify Malawi used information provided by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and analysed the content, including the signature used in the so-called press release. iVerify Malawi found that MEC had not released a statement on the final voter figures on any of its platforms. The only information on 2025 voter registration statistics is the information that the commission released in February 2025 and they are consolidated preliminary figures. MEC Spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa has also emphasized that the Commission does not segregate voter figures into regions. Additionally, the signature used in the circulating press release does not appear to be that of MEC Chief Elections Officer Andrew Mpesi if his signature as appearing in other public documents is anything to go by.
