Malawi Police Service Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Peter Kalaya and sources within the office of the Vice President have dismissed the claim by Malawi Voice. Mr. Kalaya and sources from the VEEP's office said Usi's security team remains in place and no changes have been made to the detail.

iVerify Malawi fact-checked the information and concluded that it is false. To arrive at this verdict, iVerify Malawi interviewed Malawi Police Service National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Peter Kalaya, who said there are neither changes nor trimming of Dr. Michael Usi’s security detail. Sources within the office of the Vice President also corroborated Kalaya’s information. VEEP office sources also said the Vice President does not attend all events presided over by the President, even before the current campaign period. They were referring to the claim that Usi’s absence at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) silver jubilee in Lilongwe was a sign of a complete fallout between him and the President.
