Rating Justification

iVerify Malawi verified the information in the circulating poster(s) and determined that it is false. To arrive at this verdict, iVerify Malawi talked to Brian Banda and conducted an online image search of the poster claiming that he is contesting for ‘Blantyre Malabada’. Banda said the poster claiming his intention to contest has been appearing and disappearing for some time and it mostly circulates when he hosts Times Group Talk Show called ‘Hot Current’. According to Banda, the posters are not originating from him but people who are trying to discredit him and his work as a broadcaster. He says he has no intention to join politics.

iVerify Malawi’s online image search of the poster found that the poster started circulating in 2022. Additionally, the latest Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) list of Constituencies and Wards across Malawi has no Constituency or Ward named ‘Blantyre Malabada’, but Blantyre City Ndirande Malabada Nyambadwe Constituency and Ndirande Malabada Ward.
