MEC confirmed about two incidents involving trucks carrying ballot papers that occurred on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. A Malawi Defence Force truck carrying ballot papers destined for Nkhata Bay North Constituency developed a mechanical fault on the way. The driver was instructed to park the truck at Mzuzu Police. A mechanic was dispatched to diagnose the issue and depending on the diagnosis, the truck was to proceed to the assigned destination or remain at Mzuzu Police overnight. In another incident, a truck, carrying ballot papers destined for Chikwawa Central Constituency broke down between Njolomole / Tsangano Turn Off in Ntcheu district. Security from Ntcheu and Mlangeni Police Stations was mobilised to secure the truck. A replacement truck was deployed from Lilongwe with a plan to transfer the ballot papers so that the consignment could proceed to the destination. Political party representatives who were present at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) were duly briefed on the incidents and the interventions implemented to secure the truck and its contents, as well as the recovery strategy.
